C is For Chic Interview #1: Rice and Beans Vintages

Image and video hosting by TinyPic

Living in New York, you tend to find a lot of vintage store here or there. For a lot of people when they go to a vintage store they mainly seek out classic whether they be no designers or classic such as Chanel or Prada. Well, Sarah Korsiak Cellier does just that, sells classic, check this mini interview I did with this stylish Maine resident and onwer of the lovely riceandbeansvintage.com and see what makes her tick.

1) Where did the idea for riceandbeansvintage come from?
I have been a vintage & designer clothing dealer for the past 9 years. I decided to open Rice and Beans Vintage after my son was born as a way to harness all of my creative energy and love for fashion and still be able to spend as much time as possible with him.

2) Why the name rice and beans vintage? Is there a story behind the name?
The name Rice and Beans Vintage comes from the nickname Ms Rice and Beans, that my lover gave me many years ago when we first met. The name embodies the sass and fiery nature of myself...or so I'm told!

3) Was fashion something you were always interested in?
Yes, I have been a fashion lover for as long as I remember. No matter what phase I've gone through in life, fashion has always played a major role. My first vintage acquisition was at the age of 10 or so when I bought a vintage 50's crimson red crinoline from Screaming Mimi's in NYC because Cyndi Lauper shopped there!

4) What makes your online vintage store stand out among all the others?
Rice and Beans Vintage offers something for every fashion lover. I really try, and hopefully succeed at offering a diverse selection of high and low end pieces so that anyone can shop and not feel intimidated.

5) Besides some of the incredible designers that you sell, Fendi, Valentino and Chanel to name a few, what other designers would you love to get your hands on?
Ossie Clark, Halston, Alexander McQueen just to name a few.....

6) Describe the rice and beans vintage customer in four words?
Savvy, creative, diverse, fantastic!

7) How do you stay inform on the latest trends in fashion? Do you read blogs, fashion magazines, online fashion websites?
Staying on top of current trends is one of the best parts of my job! I get a plethora of fashion magazines that I pour through every month and I do have my favorite fashion blogs like The Coveted & Fashion Pulse but I don't read as many blogs as I'd like. I just am too busy!

8) What does style mean to you?

To me style is an outward expression of your mood, creativity, outlook on life, imagination...so many things. Someone's style offers you a glimpse into who they are or who they are at that moment anyway!

9) Do you have anyone, style wise, that inspires you?

Vanessa Paradis, Kate Moss, Sophia Loren, Meryl Streep, and Helena Christensen

10) What trends are you looking forward to for spring?
ohh...I've really gotten into the whole Military coat trend as well as the utilitarian pant with unusual sky high heels. I also love the neutral handbags in nubby organic materials.

11) What advice would you give someone who wants to start there own online vintage store?
Do what you love and everything else will follow.

Okay, rapid fire:

  1. Nice post!

Now a days lot of designs have arrived in to men & womens fashion style. But one of the key items every men & woman should have is a pair of jeans that flatters your figure and can be dressed up or down.

Hey guys! Thanks so much for commenting. Your words mean a lot to me. ^_^

Here's a funny quote:

BATMAN: Do me a favor and lose the sense of humor.
SUPERMAN: Do us both a favor and buy one.
